Who We Are & What We Do
FOICJMA (Friends of ICJM Australia) is a non-profit charitable institution based in Sydney. It is registered in NSW with an elected council who controls and manages the affairs of the association. Membership is open, Australia wide, to any individual interested in ICJM and willing to support it.
Mission
FOICJMA supports projects from the Diocese of Port-Louis and Institut Cardinal Jean Margéot (ICJM) that drive meaningful social impact in Mauritius.
Honouring the legacy of our founding members and guided by Père Laval's spirit of humble service, we commit ourselves to walking alongside those in need, serving human dignity and social justice above all else.
Vision
Inspired by Cardinal Margéot's belief in integral human development and Cardinal Piat's vision of collective action, we fund and engage with programs that create lasting positive change for current and future generations.
We dedicate our time, skills, and resources to support communities through initiatives that aim to eliminate poverty, make health services more accessible, preserve Mauritian cultural identity, expand education opportunities, support environmental sustainability, and promote social justice.
We encourage a culture of service that enables our friends and supporters in Australia to contribute to specific projects - not only financially, but also through their time and expertise.
About ICJM
The Institut Cardinal Jean Margeot - ICJM was launched in 2009 in Mauritius. Named after Cardinal Jean-Margeot, the institute was set up to continue his legacy. During his episcopate (1968-1993) he initiated several programs touching on various dimensions of integral human development. Therefore, all the fields of training proposed by ICJM were either launched by the Cardinal himself or promoted by him.
Integral Human Development [IHD] is defined as the holistic development of the human person, covering all aspects of life: social, economic, political, cultural, personal and spiritual. It promotes the dignity of the human person, equality between every person and the common good of all people in the community.
