Thank you
ÉVÊCHÉ DE PORT-LOUIS
24 March 2026
Dear friends, dear Mauritians living in Australia,
I write to you from Mauritius, our cherished island home.
I have learned of the FOICJMA and have read with interest the mission that animates your group. Your commitment to fostering meaningful social impact, walking in solidarity with those in need, and supporting programmes that promote integral human development resonates with the vision I hold for our local Church.
Cardinal Jean Margéot and Cardinal Maurice Piat have devoted themselves tirelessly to realising a shared dream: the advancement of initiatives dedicated to poverty alleviation, the strengthening of family values, the promotion of human dignity and rights, interreligious dialogue, and the sharing of faith, among many others. In all humility, I have accepted to follow in the footsteps of these Mauritian bishops, and I am heartened to know that I can rely on the support of fellow Mauritians, both at home and abroad.
I have also been informed of your generous contributions to ongoing projects, and I wish to express my sincere gratitude for your trust and support in the work being carried out within our Diocese.
It is my hope that you will continue to visit our country, and that we may have the joy of welcoming you to witness firsthand the fruits of these endeavours. Should the opportunity arise, I would likewise be delighted to visit your adopted homeland, so that we may spend time together in fellowship.
Until that day, please be assured of my prayers and my heartfelt gratitude.
Fraternally yours,
Jean Michaël Durhône
Bishop of Port-Louis
